That was the question that started it all for us. Rewind to 2003 – our business begins with a few good clients who needed everything “web”. Before we knew it, we were building lots of websites from scratch and then watching as no one visited because our advertisers failed to do SEO or Buy Traffic.
Then of course it become more than just websites, everyone needed to find the right marketing that delivered the correct kind of new visitors or potential customers to our websites. And we quickly discovered that this was an intricate and complicated part of growing a business. Our advertisers struggled to understand Impressions and Clicks and Audiences and the different ways that marketing works and can be measured.
Lead Link Media consistently communicated with advertisers that they wished things were easier. That maybe, what if, they only had to pay for all of this online advertising “when my phone rings with an actual interested caller”…?
Well... That’s it, how about we make our advertisers only Pay Per Call and Lead Link Media Pay Per Call was born.
Pay-per-call (PPCall, also called cost-per-call) is an advertising model in which the rate paid by the advertiser is determined by the number of telephone calls made by viewers of an ad. Pay Per Call providers charge per call, per impression or per conversion.
Pay Per Call is similar to online pay per click (PPC) advertising, but induces the viewer to make a telephone call instead of viewing an external website. Both enterprises looking to reach certain locations, or local/regional businesses can benefit from Pay Per Call campaigns, because it allows customers to talk with the seller before buying a product or service.
Vendors of pay-per-call advertising attribute the growth of the model to the popularity of smartphones and claim that it reduces the costs of on-line click fraud.
Pay-per-call advertising is not to be confused with premium-rate telephone numbers. Pay-per-call is the inverse of a premium telephone number, in that the advertiser who receives the call, not the caller, is charged for the service. Since it is cost per lead advertising, the rates are higher than for toll-free telephone number service. In general, the advertiser is only billed for calls that are qualified via IVR or call center validation.
The duration of interactions (since callers spend more time interacting with the business on the phone than looking at their website) and the probability of fraud through calls is significantly reduced are factors that might increase Pay Per Call pricing, but also increases its effectiveness.
Pay Per Call Marketing Saves You Money
1, Lead Link Media runs online media campaigns where it is most likely to be noticed by an advertiser's ideal customers and to be able to respond at the moment. The advertisements include the offer to help a prospect tackle a problem: for example, offering $10 off windshield replacement or a free phone quote.
2, In the quest for a solution, viewers note the commercials or, in the case of display advertising, simply live their lives as normal.
3, Those who feel interested will pick up the telephone and call the ad number.
4, Their call is picked up at a call center, where an initial round of qualification is performed by qualified call center agents or an integrated voice response system (IVR). The caller answers questions about their interest in the bid, their preparedness in the near future to make a purchase decision, and any other qualifying questions defined by the advertiser.
5, The call is moved to the sales team of the advertiser if the caller responds in ways that qualify them to take the next step.
6, A member of the sales team receives the call, talks with the prospect to further qualify them for a minute or two (duration time), answers any remaining questions, overcomes any objections, and closes the deal.
7, Only calls that qualify are billed to the publisher for (meaning, they last a certain amount of time because the caller fits the qualifications specified by the advertiser). The advertiser only pays for qualifying calls (and they have the last say on that, during the duration period).
Pay per call is a marketing tactic that is efficient, repeatable and successful. Year after year, product after product, service after service, you can use it. To scale up, all you have to do is to purchase more calls from your pay per call partner.
Is Pay Per Call Affordable?
It is easy to anticipate the cost of using pay per call. Any time your sales team talks to a prospect for a given amount of time, called the duration, you pay. The time period varies from situation to situation, but you usually get 30-45 seconds after the IVR confirms interest or qualification. The call becomes billable at the close of the time period. By then, for an ideal customer, the caller has demonstrated a high degree of interest and shown that they meet the requirements.
Using pay per call, the cost per purchase (CPA) is usually much, much lower than if you ran the whole campaign in-house from beginning to end. Doing it all internally might seem to be more economical than outsourcing, like tackling a home improvement project on your own. But in the same way that a DIY project can quickly turn into a costly mess, it sounds much easier to run an advertising campaign to deliver leads than it is.
